As more and more people are becoming health conscious and visiting their New Orleans fitness club more often, they are also taking a new approach to eating healthy. But not everybody is fully on board with a healthy diet and often find themselves enjoying casual dining at the local Applebee’s or Chili’s. And while these might not be the best choices to have dinner if you wish to engage in a healthy diet, some of the dishes are far worse than others.

If you are really serious about eating healthy, the next time you find yourself at Applebee’s, put your menu down, stand up and walk to the nearest exit. Seriously, there are far better choices out there. But if you are forced to have to eat at a chain restaurant because you are celebrating your mom’s 60th birthday, here are the dishes you should avoid at all costs.

Applebee’s Beef Verde Nachos

Even if you share this trough of beef and queso-topped nachos with your spouse and you child, you would still be ingesting an entire day’s worth of sodium, more than 600 calories and almost no nutritional value. And this is just an appetizer. If you have to have an appetizer, chips and salsa will do nicely.

So, you can’t decide between ribs, sausage and brisket, so you order the combo plate that has all three. And really, the three types of meat are just the tip of the iceberg of this culinary masterpiece because you get your choice of two sides with it as well. So what do want with that, mac-n-cheese and onion rings? Throw in a roll, ice cream for dessert and a soda to wash it all down and you will have consumed over 2,500 calories and three days worth of saturated fat.

Congratulations, you just ate a heart attack.

Outback Steakhouse Roasted Prime Rib

Prime rib really isn’t that big a deal, if you eat, say, four to six ounces of it and not 12. A 12-ounce portion of prime rib tops out at around 1,500 calories and when you add in a wedge salad with blue cheese dressing, a baked potato and the complimentary bread they give you, you are essentially eating enough calories to cover breakfast, lunch, dinner and breakfast again.

When thinking about Asian cuisine, we really think it to be a light fare. But this is not the case at PF Chang’s. If you take a look at the nutritional information on the pork fried rice, you will be very disappointed and maybe even a little scared.
